SAFETY FIRST! Message from the Board of Directors
As opening day quickly approaches and we get ready to enjoy a great summer season at Venetian Pools, please remember that safety in and around our pool is our first priority. Swim Atlanta and the lifeguards and staff do a fantastic job of monitoring the pool and keeping things running smoothly, but members and their guests should also take reasonable precautions to ensure their own safety. Please be vigilant and mindful of the safety of our members and their guests!
- It is extremely important to never leave any child unattended who cannot swim or whose ability to swim is limited
- Keep children away from pool drains, pipes and other openings
- Have a phone close by at all times (a phone is located at the front desk)
- If a child is missing, check the pool first
- Share safety instructions with family and friends
- No glass/ceramic of any kind allowed at the pool! If you can’t leave it at home, then leave it in your vehicle!
WELCOME…to Venetian! New Member Welcoming/Orientation Party is Saturday, May 7th from 4-5 PM
An Evite was sent out in mid-April inviting all of our 2016 new members to a New Member Welcoming/Orientation Party. If you are a new member to Venetian and you did not get an invitation, first check your junk/spam folder and if you don’t see the Evite there, please contact our Membership Chair, Catherine Moore. We have lots of information to share about our pool and there will be a special tour for the kids! New members will receive your Membership certificate and will learn all about the fingerprint system that we use for pool entry. Light snacks and beverages will be served. Hope to see you at the “Dance Hall” on opening day, Saturday, May 7 at 4 PM.
Pool Sharks Announcement
Does your pre-college child want to swim with the sharks? The Pool Sharks, that is. Although practice has already started, it is not too late to join the fun camaraderie of our championship team. Swimmers will enjoy learning swimming skills and games with new and old friends, and gain a chance to compete at the Georgia Tech Pool, home of the 1996 Summer Olympics, for ASA Championships. We welcome swimmers of ALL levels and ages. For more information check out our web page on the Venetian Pool Web site (click on Swim Team in the navigation menu).
Support the Pool Sharks and advertise your business at the same time. Our over 200 swimmers proudly wear their team shirts throughout the summer and beyond. Swimmers’ families are on our Web site numerous times every week during the swim season. Take advantage of that exposure and become a swim team sponsor. For just $200 your logo and link will be featured on our team Web site and your logo will be featured on the back of the T-shirts. The deadline for sponsors to submit artwork to be included on the team T-shirts is May 14th! Please consider helping support Venetian’s team. For more information please contact Jennifer Hardy at jennifer@interiormedia.com.
Important Information Members Need to Know about Swim Team Practices and Meets
Summer league swim season is in full swing, and our Venetian Pool Sharks are chomping at the bit! From May 9 – 27 the Pool Sharks practice from 4:30-6:30 PM, with about a 15 minute window before and after to change the lanes from long course to short course (4:15-6:45 PM). This means that the long lap lanes are removed and the shallow end of the pool is turned into lap lanes for swim practice. From Memorial Day through the 1st of July, practice times change to 8:30-11:00 AM (8:15-11:15 AM including lane change time). The pool opens to all members at 10 AM (lap swimming from 6-8 AM), however, during these practice times the lap lanes are fully occupied by the swim team. For safety reasons, no non-swim team members are allowed in the pool during swim team practices.
During the week of May 31 – June 3, there is a short one hour practice held from 5:00-6:00 PM (4:45-6:15 PM) for pool sharks who are still in school. These practices will continue on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for the weeks of June 6, 13, and 20th, with a major difference being only 5 short course lanes are set up, 2 of which will be guaranteed available for lap swimming.
This season Venetian is hosting three swim meets, all on Tuesdays – May 31st, June 7th, and June 14th. On these dates, the pool closes at 4:00 PM to set up and reorganize the pool deck for the swim meet. All facilities are closed to general use at this time. When the setup is complete, usually around 5:00, the playground, bathroom, and deck reopen for spectator use. The grills are used to prepare food for swim team concessions, available for everyone’s enjoyment. The competition end of the pool is for swim meet use only, and the deep end is closed off entirely. All Venetian members are welcome and encouraged to come enjoy our summer competitions, be a part of the community, and share in the joy of youth sports!!
Note: There could be occasional changes to practice or meet times due to inclement weather. For more information on swim team practice and meet times, always refer to the Pool Hours calendar on the Venetian Home Page and the Pool Sharks Web site! The calendars are updated as information becomes available.
Time Running Out For Free Mile
The clock is ticking down to Saturday’s pool opening and, as it does, this will be a good time to sign up for this year’s 40 Mile Swim Challenge. Of course, you can still sign up after May 7, but, if you sign up before Saturday, you’ll receive your 28th mile FREE.
To enroll in this year’s challenge, simply email mayahahn@att.net and Iet Maya know that you’re interested. If you completed 40 miles last summer, you’re automatically enrolled for this summer. Otherwise, there’s no cost or risk in signing up and, even if you don’t complete 40 miles this summer, you may be surprised and encouraged by how many miles you do swim during the season.
If you decide to take part in the 40 Mile Swim Challenge on or after opening day, just email Maya and she’ll make a sheet for you to record your mileage or fill out one of the blank pages that will be in the “swimming pool blue” 40 Mile Record Book at the front desk.
Babysitter Information on Your Membership
If a member has any changes with a babysitter — adding one, deleting one, etc. PLEASE make the change at the Venetian front desk. This is the most efficient way to get the change into the computer system. Thanks for your cooperation.
