Special Thanks to Flip Hager
Flip Hager is the invisible hand of Venetian Pool. Flip fixes and does so many things to keep the pool in good condition. If you know Flip, please thank him for all he does. The Board of Directors sends a Big Thank You to Flip!
July 4 Recap
Our 4th on the 5th was a great success! Even with the rain out on the 4th, we still had over 700 members attend. The winners for the potluck categories were: Most Flavorful: Lisa Gordon, and Most Patriotic Dessert: a tie between Deanna Pope-Ozio and Michelle Marshall. A huge Thank you to all the volunteers that helped make our event so incredibly fun. The hot dogs were cooked by some great Venetian Dads; Colm and the guards really pitched in; and special thank you to Becky Smith, Pat Solomon, Cindy Garstka, and Paige McNeal. There were also many members that came up and volunteered their time to help decorate and make our party the best yet. Thank you to you all!
Mark your calendars. Our next event is Luau Saturday, August 1st. Luau will be at 6 PM with a warm up band starting at 4:30. More to come…
Pool Hours Extended
A group of members attended the July Board Meeting and requested that the Board consider opening the pool earlier than 4pm on weekdays for the last two weeks of August. The Board voted to change the opening time from 4pm to 1pm for the last two (full) weeks in August (Note: this does not include Monday, August 31st). The weekday hours still include the early lap swim time of 6am to 10am M-F and the pool will “re-open” at 1pm from August 17th thru August 28th M-F. The pool hours have been updated on the VPCA website.
3-Year Board Terms
Also at the July Meeting, the Board voted to extend the term of service on the Board to 3 years from the existing 2 years. An amendment to the By-Laws is necessary for this change and is being drawn up, so this message is intended to let the membership know as the 2015 Nominations and Voting is imminent.
Much thought and discussion about this topic has taken place over the last year, the result of which is that the 3-year term will allow a new Board member to learn the job the first year, do the job the second year, and teach the job to a new Board member the third year. This will serve the membership better by providing a more “seamless” transition and will help new Board members learn the history of issues, events, and Board/Membership matters.
As it stands now, Rob Katz (Treasurer/Finance), John Dean (Activities), and Nick Cortese (Communications) will be leaving the Board this year, making room for 3 new Board Members. So we will be nominating members for 3 new Board postions this year. Subject to changes, the nomination period will begin Saturday, July 25th and end on Monday, August 10th with voting beginning on Monday, August 24th and ending Monday (Labor Day), September 7th. Stay tuned for more information on this year’s nomination period and voting.
Parking Lot Entrance/Exit Signs
The traffic signs for the parking lot have now been installed – two signs that read Exit Only – Do Not Enter, two that read Entrance Only, one of which has a Do Not Exit sign in the back of it. Also, an additional sign reminding people not to leave valuables in their cars was installed.
