End of Season Message
Well, another year of summer fun is over…the weather did not fully cooperate this season, but let’s all place our order for next year!
The pool renovations greatly enhanced our environment, and put Venetian up at the top of Atlanta’s swim scene. Despite an incredibly rainy summer, we had lots of great activities; the Luau was a huge hit, the Family Game Nights were popular, the swim team won all their meets and placed First at County, and the lap lanes got even more customers with the 40 Mile Swim Challenge.
Thanks to Outgoing Board Members
A big Thanks goes to the outgoing Board members, Cheryl Graves, Sophia Brothers Peterman, and Adam Levy. Without their many hours of work, none of the above would have been accomplished. And welcome to the new Board members, Nick Cortese, John Hall, and Michael Purser.
Committees Need Volunteers
Even though the pool is not open for months, lots of important work is done in the off-season. We have several committees that are looking for volunteers. Most of the work is done through email; so don’t feel that you can’t contribute due to time and travel constraints. If you want to see the committee duties/responsibilities, refer to the Member Matters Tab under Members Info Page on the website. If you are interested in other committees than those asking for volunteers below, you can find contacts under Member Matters.

40-Mile Challenge Results
– Thanks to Maya Hahn for submitting the following:
In spite of cold water temperatures and one of the rainiest summers on record, 85 people enrolled and 34 Venetian members met the 40 mile Swim Challenge this past summer, swimming a total of 2497 miles, 297 miles more than Summer, 2012. This got us as far as the middle of Canada’s Northwest Territories, or to the Southwest corner of Greenland in the northeast, Georgetown, Guyana in the southeast, the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in the east, and Guayaquil, Ecuador in the southwest.
Leading the pack in 2013 was Jennie Richardson with a whopping 154.5 miles under her fins. Number two was last year’s leader, Jessica Landisman-Williams, at 131 miles. Laura Doonan was close behind at 121 miles and she was followed by Rick “the Shark” Alembik with 108 miles. Rounding out the top five was Coach Sam Brown, with 106 miles. Look for Jennie’s name added to the plaque in the entry kiosk next summer.
