Time to Nominate
Time to send in those nominations for the Venetian Board of Directors. Don’t be shy—nominate yourself or another (just be sure that other person agrees to run) by a week from tomorrow, Friday, August 3. There are four open positions. People with financial and property and grounds experience are especially needed, but any member that is interested in helping to maintain and improve the Venetian Pools Community Association is encouraged to run. The Board meets once a month. Download the form from the Members Matters section under the Members Only tab (you have to be logged in—reply if you need your password resent). Blank forms are also in the “Venetian Voting” folder at the Front Desk. Leave the completed form at the front desk, e-mail it to Sophia Brothers Peterman, communications@venetianpools.org or send it via snail mail to Sophia.
Town Hall Meeting on Sunday, July 29, at 4:30 p.m.
Come one, come all! The second and last Town Hall meeting will be on Sunday, July 29, at 4:30 p.m. in the Dance Hall at the pool. The topic is membership challenges, priorities, and possibilities for the future. This is a time to ask questions and give feedback to the Committee in person, although you can always e-mail Cheryl Graves, vicepresident@venetianpools.org , the Membership Committee Chair. After this Town Hall meeting, the Membership Committee will post their proposed changes to the membership policy on the web.
Razors Should Stay at Home
Please do not bring razors to the pool. One was left on the locker room shower floor, resulting in someone getting cut. For safety’s sake, plan on defuzzing at home.
Revised Draft Master Plan for Review
Thanks to those who have commented on the draft master plan for Venetian Pools. A revised draft master plan is now posted on the pool bulletin board. There is also a link to it under Member Matters, found under the Members Only tab (you have to log on the website to see it). Let us know what you think—reply, e-mail news@venetianpools.org, or leave a comment. This is a fluid document—your ideas are important to help guide Venetian Pools Community Association in the coming years.
Lost & Found Goes Tuesday
It’s moved—the Lost & Found is now located in the Dance Hall. Be sure to claim your missing items (there are some nice ones) by Tuesday, July 31. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity on Wednesday, August 1.
Last Movie Night: Hugo
Come tomorrow night, Friday, the 27th, for the last Movie Night. Relax on your floatie and follow Hugo’s adventures. It starts at dusk, around 8 p.m.
Concession Stand Brainstorming
While the hot dogs and popsicles are fresh in your mind and your stomach, we would love to hear your ideas for the Venetian Concession Stand. Hit reply to help us plan for the 2013 season.
A Challenge, a Lap, a Soldier, a Card
It started with the Venetian Pools 40 mile Challenge. Lap after lap was swum, and soon the sum total was 1000 miles, enough to get us all the way to the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. But Venetian swimmers didn’t stop there. Now the total is at 1460 miles, more than enough to get from here to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Charley Doonan’s home base. Charley, son of Pat and Laura Doonan, became a member of VPCA when he was 2, learning to swim here, competing as a Poolshark, and working as a junior guard and life guard as recently as 2010. Now Charley is serving in Afghanistan with 130o heat and an 80 lb. pack on his back. Be sure to sign the card to him at the front desk commemorating this effort and sending him good wishes for a speedy return to the blue waters of Venetian.
