Pool Opens at Noon Tomorrow
As we said, we hope the third time is a charm. The pool will open at noon tomorrow, Friday, the 20th, to allow the last in-pool lights to be installed. The pool area will also be closed until noon, since there will be electrical cords and installation machinery on the pool deck. Be sure to make good use of those lights and come later (at dusk) to watch “Dolphin Tales” while on your favorite floatie.
Nominations for Board
Don’t be shy—nominate yourself or another to run for the Venetian Board of Directors. There are four open positions. People with financial and property and grounds experience are especially needed, but any member that is interested in helping to maintain and improve the Venetian Pools Community Association is encouraged to run. Download the form from the Members Matters section under the Members Only tab (you have to be logged in)—yes, it really is on the website now. Leave the completed form at the front desk, e-mail it to Sophia Brothers Peterman, communications@venetianpools.org or send it via snail mail to Sophia. Be sure that every person nominated has agreed to run. The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, August 3. Voting will be from Thursday, August 16, through Labor Day, Monday, September 3. The new Board members will officially take office during the General Meeting, Monday, September 10.
Town Hall Meeting on Sunday, July 29, at 4:30 p.m.
The second and last Town Hall meeting will be on Sunday, July 29, at 4:30 p.m. in the Dance Hall at the pool. The topic is membership challenges, priorities, and possibilities for the future. This is a time to ask questions and give feedback to the Committee in person, although e-mail correspondence is always welcome. Cheryl Graves, vicepresident@venetianpools.org , is the Membership Committee Chair.

Update on the 40 Mile Challenge
Whoa, word on the street is:
- The accumulated mileage by those participating in the 40 Mile Challenge is enough to get us to the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas …. 1000 miles.
- Six swimmers, five of which are female, have completed 40 miles.
- Half a dozen more are on track to make 40 miles this summer.
- The pool opens at 6:00 AM on Tuesday and Thursdays and stays open the remainder of the day, so there is plenty of time to get a later start if you are not an early riser.
All you dedicated lap swimmers who did not sign up—how about signing up now and helping us create a Venetian lap lane that goes beyond Texas. You may not complete the 40 miles, but you could help us swim to Denver, CO!
Speaking of Lightning
So, we know what lightning can do to a certain pool’s hard drive. And we know that everyone needs to be out of the pool until 30 minutes after the last observed thunder or lightning. But remember that any activities around water, including showers, or metal, such as fencing or metal umbrella poles, should also be stopped. Be safe when thunder rolls into town!
