Board of Directors Nominations
Dear Members – the nomination period closed Saturday Aug 2nd and we have not received enough nominations for the number of available Board positions. Some board members have served for quite some time, doing multiple terms. The VPCA Board is purely a volunteer group and special experience or qualifications are not needed. Do not think that you have not been members long enough or don’t have a special expertise. We are looking for anyone who is interested in participating, no matter how long they have been members, but would particularly like to see newer members get involved to add perhaps a different perspective and new ideas.
You can download the nomination form from the Voting Matters section under the Members Only tab (you have to be logged in). Blank forms are available at the Front Desk or you can also click Nominations for VPCA Board of Directors 2014 for the form. Leave the completed form at the front desk, e-mail it to Nick Cortese, communications@venetianpools.org or mail it to Nick (address on form). The voting period is “to be determined” at this time.

Now is the time to register or donate for 4th Annual Swim-a-thon on Saturday, August 16, to benefit CURE Childhood Cancer. You can set up a donation page or donate by going to: https://www.firstgiving.com/curechildhoodcancer/venetian-for-cure-2014 or contact Elizabeth Woodcock to register for the event and receive a donation form.
Luau Wrap
Wow – So glad the weather cooperated for Luau Saturday! The winner of the Hula Hoop contest for the second year in a row was Adeline Carlton! She received a $15 gift card to Butter and Cream. There was also great excitement and competitive spirit in the Margarita Relay event! Thank you to the ‘grown-ups’ who participated.
Huge Thank-You’s go out to Tammy Dammann and Friends for the great music, Quinn Postino for securing Burnt Wood BBQ, as well as Rick & Becky Smith for grilling the corn.
Please consider Wayne Germon, Pit Master of Burnt Wood BBQ for your next catering event. 678-600-7821.
40-Mile Challenge Update
The water is cool (thanks to Swim Atlanta); the weather is hot, and the action in Venetian’s lap lanes is smoking hot as more and more people reach and exceed their goals in this year’s 40 Mile Swim Challenge.
As of August 4, nine members have passed the 40 mile point and continue to rack up the mileage. Leading the pack is Jessica Landisman Williams with 94 miles under her flippers. Laura Doonan follows closely behind with 83 miles and Jennie Richardson, last year’s top swimmer, has swum 80.5 miles. Whew!
Past the halfway mark and well on their way to goal are an additional 24 members. With almost two months left in the 2014 swim season, most, if not all, of them should be sporting the stylish hoody those meeting the challenge will receive.
Haven’t started on your mileage yet? There’s still time. If you swim a mile a day from now until September 30, you, too, can meet the 40 Mile Swim Challenge. So, get your goggles, pick up one of our new kickboards and pull buoys and get swimming!
Lap Swimmers – New Pull Buoys and Kick Boards
Our kick boards had begun to break down and contained the imprints of some fine dental work so we purchased some new boards and some pull buoys. They are available at the front desk.
