40 Mile Challenge Update
What happens when you swim a mile every day? Well, on the fortieth day of this year’s swim season, June 19, Laura Doonan found out by swimming her 40th mile. Well on her way to beat her 2013 mileage which totaled 121, Laura began her swim in the bone-chilling cold water of opening day, swims rain or shine, and hasn’t let up at all in the mid June heatwave.
More than 85 Venetian members have signed up for the 40 Mile Swim Challenge to date and many of them are well on their way to meet or surpass their goals. This year’s reward for meeting the challenge is a year round hoodie.
You can still sign up to participate in the Challenge—you have until the end of September’s Extended Swim to complete your 40 miles. If you haven’t signed up as yet and want to, there are blank record forms in the 40 Mile Swim Challenge notebook at the front desk.
Soon to come is the competition for this year’s design. Anyone who’s signed up for the challenge can submit a design for the hoodie and all who participate will be able to vote for the one they like best. More details will come soon.
When you see blonde and vivacious Laura Doonan at the pool, be sure to congratulate her on her on being this year’s first swimmer to achieve 40 miles.
