40 Mile Challenge Announcement
May 10 is fast approaching and, with it, the official start of the Third Annual 40 Mile Swim Challenge at Venetian Pools. This year we are not offering a tee shirt to those who achieve or surpass the 40 mile goal. Instead, I’m excited to announce that we are offering a year round HOODIE for just a nominal $5 contribution on your part.
Additionally, if you sign up for the 40 Mile Swim Challenge prior to May 10, you will receive your 22nd mile FREE! Just email mayahahn@att.net to sign up and there will be a record sheet waiting for you in the notebook at the front desk the first day the pool opens.
- The 40 Mile Swim Challenge is open to any member of any age.
- Miles must be completed between the pool opening
(either May 10 or earlier, if there’s an early extended swim this year) and the end of September.
- You may swim up to 5 of your miles at a non-Venetian pool (if you’re on vacation, or swimming at the YMCA, etc.) but the remainder must be completed at Venetian. (New rule)
- Miles will be self-recorded on individual record sheets in a notebook kept at the front desk.
- You do not have to swim a full mile each time you swim. You can enter half or quarter miles, as long as your mileage adds up to 40 miles.
For those of you who don’t like the cold water at the beginning of the swim season, I might suggest a wetsuit vest to keep your core warm for the first few laps. Several swimmers have found an excellent product with lots of choices of wet suits, rash guards, swim goggles, and everything else for the pool at http//www.4liquidpeace.com. Right now they have a number of items specially priced, too. Their service is great and there’s lots of helpful information about all their products as well.
Look for the plaque in the kiosk with 2013’s top swimmer, Jennifer Richardson’s name on it. Jennie swam 154.5 miles last summer. Will your name be on the plaque for 2014?

TAPS Stainless Steel Growlers
We are getting ready to put in the initial order for our own Venetian growlers! They will be stainless steel and laser etched with our logo. The price is $30, and if you refill at TAPS on Clairmont you will enjoy a $2 discount on beer refills and $1 on non-alcoholic beverages, such as root beer. We should have them the week we open. Please email events@venetianpools.org to reserve one or more. The initial order is 36 so they will go fast!
