Friday Movie Night: Wreck It Ralph

Enter into a video arcade escapade while simultaneously chilling in the pool.  Come watch “Wreck It Ralph” during Friday Movie Night at the pool tonight, June 28.  Movie nights are the only times when floaties are allowed.  The action starts at dusk, around 8 p.m. or so.

Lost & Found—Gone This Sunday

Remember to check the Venetian Lost & Found before June 30th.  Everything in the Lost & Found will be donated to charity on the last day of every month. Wet towels are hung outside at the back of the locker rooms.  Everything else is on the shelves just inside the door of the women’s locker room.

Fourth of July Celebration

It is nearly here—the legendary Venetian Pools Fourth of July celebration!  Volunteers are needed to set up the party at 7 a.m. and to help during the party.  Contact Michele Hicks, events@venetianpools.org , to sign up.  The pool will be its most crowded, so this is a good day to be on your best behavior.  Only the special Fourth of July guest passes, which are now sold out, will be honored.  No regular guest passes will be accepted.  The pool will open at 10 a.m. with the special events starting at 10:30 a.m.  Click here for the schedule of events or look under the Events tab.

If you plan to participate in the greatest potluck in town, bring enough food for ten hungry people.  The food is assigned by last name: A-I  brings a flavorful veggie dish; J-R brings a patriotic dessert; S-Z brings a colorful salad.  Venetian Pools will provide hotdogs and chips for the kids.

Special Board Meeting on July 1

There will be a short, special Board Meeting in the Dance Hall at the pool on Monday, July 1, from 7 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  The topic will be whether there should be short lap lanes or no lap lanes on the Fourth of July and during the remainder of the Deep End Saturday Night Events, including the Luau and the Low Country Boil.  Any other topics will be deferred until the regular Board Meeting on Monday, July 8.

Swim, Baby, Swim!

Congrats to all you lap swimmers, grown-ups and kids, too!  Those lap lanes are humming.  Are the mid-summer doldrums starting to set in?  Is it getting hard to keep track of the number of laps you are on?  Are you looking for a new swim routine?  Beginning this Sunday, there will be a folder at the front desk, where the 40 Mile Swim Challenge book is located, with ½ and 1 mile swim routines.  Feel free to grab a page out of the book and dive in!  If you wet the page, you can stick it onto a kickboard and keep it at the end of the lap lane for reference while you swim.  Different routines will be added to the book every Sunday through the end of August.  Happy swimming!

Dive, Baby, Dive!

No more swim team, no problem.  Lifeguard and Bates College diver Porter Harrast will be offering a way to fill your July weekday mornings with learning a new skill.  Starting July 8 and continuing through August 2, the lessons will be Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.  Sign up for individual days, a whole week, or just drop in (maximum 5 participants each day).  Lessons are $25 per day.  Participants must be at least 6 years old.  Please see the lesson book to register.  Questions: call or text Porter.

WiFi Access

Have you had trouble getting on the Venetian WiFi?  Me, too.  It is an issue of bandwidth, which is limited by older wiring running under the parking lot.  Please save your video and music streaming for home or your favorite coffeehouse.  Face it—you are just going to fall asleep in the sun anyway!

Poolsharks Undefeated

The Poolsharks had an undefeated season with last week’s score of Clairmont  –348, Poolsharks – 382.  Good luck at the county meet this weekend, swimmers!
