Friday Movie Night: Rise of the Guardians
The Earth in peril. Immortal Guardians rising to the rescue. What could be better than chilling in the pool while watching to find out how it all ends? Come to Friday Movie Night at the pool tomorrow night, June 21. These movie nights are the only times when floaties are allowed. The action starts at dusk, around 8 p.m. or so. The movie next Friday is “Wreck It Ralph”.
Fourth Guest Passes on Sale This Saturday
Sorry, last week’s announcement was premature. The Fourth of July guest passes will go on sale this Saturday morning, June 22, at the Front Desk at the pool. There will be a total of 25 Fourth guest passes sold for $25 each, limit of 4 per membership, at the front desk on a first come, first served basis. Cash or check only. A reminder that regular guest passes will not be accepted during the Fourth of July festivities.
Saturday Night Deep End Event This Saturday
Sharks and Minnows, anyone? How about water polo? The First Saturday Night Deep End event is this Saturday, June 22, from 6 pm – 10 pm. There will be two short lap lanes to allow use of the deep end for loads of fun and planned activities.
1-2-3 Flush!
Everyone has been doing a great job of using the restroom during the hourly 10 minute break. Just one more thing to remember—flush! Parents, please be sure that your young ones follow through with every bathroom visit.
Home Swim Meet this Tuesday—Pool Closes at 4
The Poolsharks will be facing Clairmont at home this Tuesday, June 25. The pool will close at 4 p.m. in preparation for the meet. The Poolsharks won their swim meet on Tuesday against Leslie Beach Club, 411-314. Good luck this coming Tuesday, swimmers! The party for the swim team will be this Sunday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
A Green Venetian
Help keep Venetian green by putting your paper, aluminum, and plastic in the big blue recycling bins. Thanks!
Swim-a-Thon for CURE Childhood Cancer Another Success!
The Swim-a-Thon for CURE Childhood Cancer at Venetian was held last Saturday, June 15, in honor of our own beloved Poolshark, Katherine (Kate) Athanassiades. Kate, who was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in 2010, celebrated her 16th birthday on the day of the event and swam herself. We had 45 swimmers and over 80 donors participate in the Swim-a-Thon, which raised nearly $5,000 via online donations, as well as those collected at the event!!! If you weren’t able to attend the event, please consider making a donation online!
Congratulations to our top swimmers for most laps swum:
Adult: Rick Alembik – 144 laps
Children: Cade Woodcock (12U) – 200 laps; Noah Fears (10U) – 136 laps; Hannah Fears (8U) – 75 laps; and Virginia Woodcock (6U) – 25 laps
And a special thanks to Lisa Hill for donating a portion of her proceeds from her amazing photography this summer to CURE! If you have any questions about the event, please contact Elizabeth Woodcock.
Lost & Found—Gone on 6/30
Remember to check the Venetian Lost & Found before June 30th. Everything in the Lost & Found will be donated to charity on the last day of every month. Wet towels are hung outside at the back of the locker rooms. Everything else is on the shelves just inside the door of the women’s locker room.
Rain, Baby, Rain
Apologies to the Wednesday morning lap swimmers. The heavy rain Tuesday night caused an overflow problem that resulted in a mess on the grass and the back deck of the pool. The number of swimmers in the pool for Tuesday’s swim meet, as well as some clogged deck drains, contributed to the problem. The Buildings and Grounds committee are working on this to ensure that it does not happen again.
Thanks
From Jim Hudgins: Everyone, I continue to be amazed at the ongoing outpouring of love, prayers and concern for me since Cathy’s death. It is good to return to her roots-Venetian. She IS sooooo proud of all the work y’all continue to do daily.
God continue to bless you all!
