Friday Movie Night: Ice Age Continental Drift
Chilling in the pool while watching Ice Age Continental Drift—what could be better on a hot Friday night in June? It looks like the weather will be good for tonight’s, June 14, Friday Movie Night at the pool. View “Monsters vs Aliens” while floating in the pool. These movie nights are the only times when floaties are allowed. The action starts at dusk, around 8 p.m. or so. Check out the Future Events schedule at the end of this message or the website www.venetianpools.org under the Events tab for the schedule of all the June movies.
Swim-a-thon for CURE Childhood Cancer this Saturday
Now is the time to register or donate for 3rd Annual Swim-a-thon this Saturday, June 15, to benefit CURE Childhood Cancer. Registrants will be swimming from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m., but you can participate by donating any time! This event is in honor of our own Venetian Poolshark, Katherine (Kate) Athanassiades. Kate, who celebrates her 16th birthday on the day of this year’s swim-a-thon, was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in September 2010 and underwent neurosurgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. She has been a Poolshark for more than 10 years, a Junior Shark coach and a Junior Guard. For the combined first two years of this event, Venetian has raised over $12,000. Let’s see if we can match or surpass it this year on our honoree’s birthday!! You can register or donate by going to:
https://www.firstgiving.com/curechildhoodcancer/venetian-swimathon-for-cure-2013
or contact Elizabeth Woodcock for a registration or donation form. For those who tried to donate last week, the DONATE link is now fixed. Information can also be found under the Events tab on the Venetian website: www.venetianpools.org
Home Swim Meet this Tuesday—Pool Closes at 4
The Poolsharks will be facing Leslie Beach Club at home this Tuesday, June 18. The pool will close at 4 p.m. in preparation for the meet. The Poolsharks won their swim meet this week, beating Leafmore by 9 points. Good luck, swimmers!
Heads Up—Cleaning the Women’s Locker Room
Problem: not many female guards and a very active women’s locker room. Solution: the women’s locker room will be closed for cleaning at 11:30 a.m. and at 4:00 p.m. Cones will be placed in each door to remind you. Male guards will be doing the cleaning if a female guard is not on duty at the time. So remember to plan accordingly!
Saturday Night Deep End Events
Marco….Polo….. The Saturday Night Deep End Events are returning on June 22, July 6, July 20, and August 3 (to coincide with the Luau) from 6 pm – 10 pm. The lap lanes will be short to allow use of the deep end for loads of fun and planned activities.
Visioning the Future of the Pool
As you are relaxing in the sun, cooled by occasional droplets from splashing children nearby, ponder the pool in 5, 10, maybe even 20 years. The conversation started last year as a potential Master Plan was presented. Would you be interested in continuing the conversation about creating a vision for Venetian in the future? Contact Cheryl Graves, president@venetianpools.org , to join the committee or to Chair this important initiative.
Lost & Found—Gone on 6/30
The mountain of Lost & Found is growing by the day! Everything in the Lost & Found will be donated to charity on the last day of every month, so be sure to check it out before June 30th. The towels are hung outside at the back of the locker rooms. Everything else is on the shelves just inside the door of the women’s locker room.
Pool Safety
The crowd at Venetian is usually pretty chill. But when that is not the case, remember that the Pool Manager and the guards are responsible for ensuring everyone’s safety by enforcing the pool rules and have the ultimate authority over all pool safety issues. Please do not engage them in any unnecessary conversation when they are watching the pool.
Retention Pond Help
The retention pond behind the pool is overgrown and needs some evaluating. If you have experience in such things, please contact Lisa Crawfprd Mendoza, vicepresident@venetianpools.com
Fourth of July
The red, white, and blue celebration is just around the corner! Volunteers are needed to set up the Fourth of July party at 7 a.m. and during the party. Contact Michele Hicks, events@venetianpools.org , to sign up. A reminder that regular guest passes will not be accepted during the Fourth of July festivities. There will be a total of 25 Fourth guest passes sold for $25 each at the front desk on a first come, first served basis.
Successful Poolsharks Fundraiser Party
The Poolsharks Fundraiser Party was a big success, raising $1300 towards the swim team’s goal of $3000 for the new starting blocks. Hannah Fears won the “Split the Pot” raffle and generously donated her $300 winnings back to the Fundraiser.
More Parties!
Mark your calendars for the Luau on Saturday, August 3. The date for the Low Country Boil is being confirmed and will probably be in September. Since these are family events, they will coincide with the Deep End Saturday Night events.
Board Meeting Last Monday
As you probably figured out from all of the announcements this week, the Venetian Board of Directors met last Monday, June 10. The financial statements and the draft meeting minutes are on the website. Log into the website and then look under the Members Only tab.
