In Memory of Cathy Daniels Hudgins
From Becky Smith: It is with great sadness that I write about the passing of a lifelong member of Venetian Pools and the last remaining active member from the family of the founders of Venetian Pools. She and her loving husband, Jim Hudgins, were on a scuba diving vacation in Mexico this past week when she passed away from a heart attack.
Cathy Hudgins was the granddaughter of Captain Walter and Bea Baker, who built and opened Venetian Pools in 1931. Her friendly smile and laughter will be greatly missed from her favorite spot in the grassy area near the Concessions Stand window. Few memories from Venetian while I was growing up do not include the Baker and Daniels families. It was her mother, Mary Jane Daniels and her aunt, Patsy Ernst, who made the purchase of the pools possible for our Venetian Pools Community Association in 1987. Cathy was always so supportive of all of our endeavors and expressed to me many times how happy she was to see her grandfather’s legacy continue.
A service for Cathy will be held this Saturday at Decatur Presbyterian Church.
Congrats to the Poolsharks!
The Poolsharks won their first swim meet tonight against Briarmoor Manor. Congratulations!
Let’s Make Waves—More on the Poolsharks Fundraiser
A correction to the hours of the Venetian Poolsharks Fundraiser: it will be from 6 pm – 9 pm on Saturday, June 8. All are welcome, and kids are encouraged to come. Tickets for the food ($5 for Pool Shark sliders, chips & coleslaw) will be sold during the party. The Split the Pot tickets will be sold in advance at the front desk. The Split the Pot raffle gives half of the pot to the winner (who does not need to be present to win), and the other half goes to help pay for the new starting blocks. There will also be a diving contest, lots of homemade desserts, and live music. Click here for the poster or check under Events on the webpage at www.venetianpools.org
